Indigenous Initiatives
Credo recognises that to develop a long term and successful relationship with indigenous communities, it is essential that community engagement and consultation is undertaken as the first step to discussion and agreement.

Traditional Owners play an important role in communities, and Elders - as the traditional custodians, have a cultural and spiritual connection to their land and waterways.
Credo is committed to engaging with indigenous communities, understanding their culture, customs, practices and language, while working in partnership to support the needs of their communities.
Our indigenous initiatives include:
- Community Relationships development and maintenance
- Indigenous employment and training
- Identification and support to develop local Indigenous Enterprises
Credo is committed to working under the guiding principles of:
- Relationships
- Respect
- Opportunities
Education, training, employment and local business enterprise are positive outcomes that arrive as a result of genuine engagement, mutual respect and a willingness to make the time for relationship development and discussion.
Credo recognises that the support of the local Aboriginal communities is the corner stone for the development of a respectful and harmonious partnership with Indigenous people.
With the support of indigenous advisors, Credo is building respectful, genuine relationships with Traditional Owner groups and community leaders in the locations we operate.
As well as building on these relationships, Credo has developed a Cultural Awareness Program to enhance our non-Indigenous employees’ understanding and acceptance of cultural diversity and protocols in the workplace.
Cross cultural training is an essential component in Credo’s aim to become an employer of choice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Credo Remote Sites staff undertake Cultural awareness programs as part of their site specific induction manuals.
Credo is a signatory to the Australian Covenant and our commitment and approach is not only about job creation, but a holistic and inclusive approach to employment.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can expect to be involved in developing their own career pathway, beginning with secure employment in a permanent job that offers on-going training, mentoring and support. Our commitment to Indigenous job seekers begins with pre-employment, and work-ready programs. This continues into the workplace, with the support of family members and local community representatives.
The development of a local community profile and recruitment plan, including training and employment targets, captures the priorities and aspirations of the local people and balances the business imperatives.
Credo indigenous commitment is also supported with the implementation of:
- Personal Development Plan
- Learning and development programs
- Specialist training and education
- Mentoring
